Project description
WILHELM & RAABE
Living between the English Garden and the Olympic Park
The detached solid wood house “Wilhelm & Raabe” is being built on a quiet side street in Milbertshofen and surrounded by predominantly 2-story residential buildings. On the street side there is the landscaped front garden, a modern pavilion as access to the underground car park elevator and the narrow building side facade made of wood with excitingly placed windows in portrait and landscape format. Here the building shows both its materiality and the solid wood construction, which is visible in the arcade area. The arcade on each floor serves as a meeting room. And the panoramic elevator takes residents and guests comfortably to the desired floor.

8 REASONS
for a wooden house
- UNBEATABLE ECO BALANCE
As a renewable raw material, wood has a negative CO2 emissions balance. - SUSTAINABLE & FUTURE-ORIENTED
Wooden construction stands for sustainable, future-oriented and ecological construction. - POSITIVE INDOOR CLIMATE
As a thermal insulation material, wood reacts slowly to temperature fluctuations and has a positive effect on the indoor climate. Studies show stress-reducing and heart rate-lowering properties of wood. - PROVEN
Wood is one of humanity's oldest building materials - LONG USE
As with solid buildings, the service life is up to 100 years. - REGULATED AIR HUMIDITY
Wood regulates the humidity in the building: it absorbs moisture and releases it again when the room air is too dry. - OPTIMALLY INSULATED
Even on cold days with low outside temperatures, the walls in a wooden building feel warm due to the optimal insulation properties. - HIGH FIRE PROTECTION
Wooden houses are subject to strict regulations when it comes to structural fire protection. The timber used must be sufficiently fire-retardant.
At home in green Milbertshofen
Sport and lots of nature, that's what Milbertshofen stands for. The 1972 Olympic Games with their iconic buildings such as the stadium with its daring tent roof construction had a lasting impact on the district. The landscape architect Günther Grzimek and the architect Günter Behnisch created an Olympic landscape that is still part of Munich's city brand today. At the same time, the Olympic Park, with its 160 hectares, is one of the largest green spaces in Munich.
Sustainable development
Hardly any district in Munich has developed as continuously and unobtrusively as Milbertshofen in the past decades. Simply because of the direct neighborhood and connection to the high-priced and hip district of Schwabing, the location has experienced a sustainable upgrading and as a result, a lot of improvements have been made in terms of housing and livability. Well-kept single-family and multi-family homes in a mixed arrangement of old and new buildings, as well as nearby green spaces, enable a relaxed life in the immediate vicinity of Munich's city center. The district is also home to the Munich BMW factory and many other successful companies, which ensures a wide range of job opportunities and economic stability.
