Location

The district of Tegel, located in the southwest of Reinickendorf, is known for the Tegeler See, a popular swimming destination. At the northern end is Humboldt Castle, privately owned by the descendants of the famous family, some of whom still inhabit it. In the adjoining park stands the "Dicke Marie", probably the oldest tree in Berlin.

Northwest of Alt-Tegel, where little remains of the historic village, runs the lifeline of Berliner Strasse replete with shops for daily errands and the Borsigwerke, which is today the adventurous "Hallen am Borsigturm" shopping centre with cinemas, shops and more set in classic Berlin-style brick masonry architecture. The castle-style entrance gate is a heritage-listed structure and a landmark in the district.

By the end of 2020, a new pedestrian zone with numerous shops, offices, cafés and restaurants will be created along Gorkistraße, representing one of the first revitalizations of a complete shopping street in Germany, fully integrated into the Tegel market hall and its 100-year history.

The Greenwich promenade with its boat docks invites you to stroll. Worth seeing is the former red customs bridge, the "Sechserbrücke" and the Humboldt library. The Tegel harbour and the local recreation area of the Tegeler Forst are also in the immediate vicinity.
