The right environment

On the north-western slope of the Deister lies the town of Barsinghausen, in the middle of the Egestorf district. The five districts on the Deister look back on over 800 years of history and represent idyllic diversity and varied leisure activities for every age group.

Among the recreational athletes, it is primarily cyclists and hikers who enjoy nature here. The forest, field and cycle paths throughout Deister and in Barsinghausen are well developed. The E1 long-distance hiking trail runs along the crest of the 400-meter-high mountain range and leads from the North Sea to Lake Constance. Two observation towers on the ridge path provide fantastic views and several rustic forest restaurants along the way invite you to enjoy refreshments.

Barsinghausen also has a lot to offer in terms of culture: the Deister open-air stage is one of the largest forest theaters in all of Lower Saxony. For over 100 years, up to 2,000 miners mined hard coal in Barsinghausen; the last shaft was closed in 1956. Today, this industrial tradition can be experienced in an impressive way in the Klosterstollen visitor mine and in the Deister Mining Museum.

Nature, culture and sport can be combined in a relaxing way in Barsinghausen. The city is also a popular destination for shopping trips.
