Project description
Breathtaking Gründerzeit-era "Altbau"
Ceiling heights of up to 3.65 metres, wonderful herringbone pattern, real wood parquet and overall a lovingly renovated Wilhelminian-style house. PFAU at Potsdamer Platz exudes true "Altbau" ('old building') charm while at the same time offering an elevator, underfloor heating, video intercom, air conditioning at loft level, fireplaces in the larger units and high-quality bathrooms to ensure a high level of comfort.
PFAU ('peacock') originally belonged to a unified villa-style development along the Bissingzeile. The area comprised thirteen residential buildings with stylistic elements quoting the old German Renaissance. Well-kept front gardens, lush stucco facades and elaborate portals underscored the architectural aesthetics of the time. Only two buildings from the original ensemble have survived.
With a lot of love for detail and taking into account the building's historical room concepts, lofty rooms combine with the current trend towards privacy to allow PFAU to meet the highest residential standards. Highlights include the light-flooded gallery apartments in the completely new loft level. All apartments have upscale bathrooms and each unit has a balcony, terrace or loggia that complements the living space harmoniously. Overall, PFAU will resurrect the most glamorous elements of the Wilhelminian era and implement the latest technology to form a jewel in the heart of the city.

The Grosser Tiergarten and old masters
Tiergarten is the green lungs of the capital, and the Grosser ('Greater') Tiergarten – consisting of the English Garden, Rose Garden and an extensive network of hiking trails and sunbathing lawns – is to Berlin what Central Park is to New York. This park is the largest of Berlin's many inner-city green spaces and boasts a rich history. Once used as a hunting ground at the gates of the city, today this unique, landscape designer's dream of a park spans from the zoological garden at the western end and brushes up against a bend in the Spree (the 'Spreebogen') to the north.
The district includes Bellevue Palace – the official residence of the Federal President, the embassy district along Tiergartenstrasse, government buildings (including the Reichstag and the Federal Chancellery) alongside Potsdamer Platz and a number of streets south of the Landwehrkanal.
The most popular meeting places are the Café am Neuen See, the museums of the Kulturforum and the Spreeufer between the House of World Cultures and the beach bars at the Spreebogen. The Gemäldegalerie surveys European art history from the 13th to the 18th centuries. Outstanding works include paintings by Raffael, Titian, Jan van Eyck and the German masters Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach and Hans Holbein.
The locality of Tiergarten belongs to the city district of Mitte. With 14,753 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019), the area has the least inhabitants of all the capital's subdistrict localities. Tiergarten shares borders with Schöneberg, Charlottenburg, the Hansaviertel, Alt-Berlin and Kreuzberg.
