The Hirschberg community
Hirschberg an der Bergstrasse is an amalgamation of the communities Großsachsen and Leutershausen to form a unified community, incorporated on January 1, 1975. Both districts are located on Bergstrasse, Bundesstrasse 3, in a scenic area. There are good transport links to Heidelberg, Mannheim and Weinheim as well as a direct motorway connection to the A5 (Hirschberg junction). The federal highway 3 forms the connection of all places along the mountain road.
Hirschberg an der Bergstrasse is known for its beautiful hiking and walking trails with a unique view of the Rhine Valley and the mountains of the Odenwald.
The fertile soil and the preferred climatic location on the gently sloping, sunny foothills of the Odenwald enable the cultivation of fine fruit varieties as well as wine and tobacco growing.
Worth seeing in Leutershausen are the castle, the pilgrimage church, the Protestant church with its tower from the 14th century and the carillon on the new town hall. In the forests above Leutershausen you will also find the remains of the Hirschburg ruins, easily reached via the well-developed hiking trails.
In Greater Saxony, the old town center with the Protestant church from the 17th century with its characteristic onion dome is well worth seeing. West of Greater Saxony, in the midst of fruit fields, you will find the ruins of Villa Rustica, an old Roman estate that hosts the three-part concert series “Concerto Villa Rustica - Concert in Historic Walls” in summer.
