Darmstadt is a large, independent city in the south of Hesse. The proximity to downtown Darmstadt allows residents to easily participate in the city's activities and facilities. Darmstadt has just over 155,000 inhabitants and is the fourth largest city in the state of Hesse after Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden and Kassel.
