Project description
THE BEST STEED
IN THE STABLE
Condé, the favourite riding horse of Frederick the Great, is the namesake for this new housing project in Potsdam's Jägervorstadt. 24 condominiums which would surely meet Friedrich's high standards are being built on the former riding and parade ground in the vicinity of the historic stables.
The construction site occupies a quiet and green location just a 10 to 15 minute walk away from Sanssouci Palace and Park, Potsdam city centre and the Dutch Quarter. Berlin City West can be easily reached by car in about 30 minutes.
Designs for Condé from the renowned architectural offices of Anne Lampen create perfect connections with the surrounding development and the renovated riding stables. Clinker brick detailing on the facades confidently cites historical precedent, while clear modern forms and large window frontages bring the focus back to the demands of contemporary design. This three-storey ensemble is divided into 3 components and skilfully staggered on the vertical. Here, terraces and balconies offer wonderful views of the green meadows and surrounding gardens.
POTSDAM –
BERLIN'S GREEN
SISTER
The state capital has mastered the art of effortlessly combining future, past and present. As the former royal seat of the kings of Prussia, Potsdam boasts a rich historical legacy. Its cultural landscape was declared a World Heritage Site in 1990. Other Potsdam traditions are developing in a promising way. The Babelsberg film studio, for example, founded in 1912 and today one of the leading film and television production facilities in Europe; or the vibrant research environment that emerged here in the middle of the 19th century and continues today.
And the present – you can really enjoy it in Potsdam. In nature – approximartely 75 percent of the urban area is greened and riverine. Or indeed urban: modern, world-class culture, top gastronomy and relaxed shopping in the town's car-free pedestrian zone.
