Location

Spandau: City within the city

Life in a small town, close to nature and at the same time in Berlin: Spandau was its own city up until a good 100 years ago and has retained this attitude to life to this day. The inhabitants of the sprawling district meet in the cobbled old town, where shops, cafés and restaurants invite you to linger. On the market square, for example, La Bottega Da Franco brings crispy pizza from the stone oven to the table and the Fester pastry shop serves heavenly cakes and coffee in pots.

On the other side of the Havel sits the imposing baroque fortress Zitadelle Spandau, which today houses a museum and an event location. Spandau's nature also offers a high quality of life. The district is characterized by the Havel with its picturesque banks and the extensive Spandau Forest. Spandau train station offers a connection to long-distance traffic (ICE) such as the ICE to Hamburg. Regional trains and S-Bahn trains stop there: the S3 and S9 take you to the city (zoological garden, main station, Alexanderplatz) and to the capital's airport BER.
