Elstar and Santana: One House Two Names Apple trees are cross-pollinators. This means that trees of the same variety cannot fertilize each other. Therefore, apple trees need foreign varieties in order to be able to produce fruit. It works best when two varieties grow on one tree. Elstar and Santana could form such an apple duo. In the Apfelgärten project, the two house entrances Elstar and Santana form just such a duo - one house two entrances, one house two names.

Berlepsch apple trees grow very strongly when young, later the tree grows more broadly and spreads out more.
