A location between nature and city
My day is laid out for me. What time am I off for a jog? I want to improve myself. Let's go. Two laps around the lake – fantastic! At Flughafensee I can always expect a very special atmosphere. Depending on the time of day, a fine mist hangs over the water or, at night, sparkling stars reflected a thousand times lie glittering on the surface. In winter I can sometimes hear the cracking ice. This is my territory. The track around the lake is just under four kilometres – right on for my training.
It's about 500 metres from my front door to the underground station at Otisstraße. To get there, I only have to cross Seidelstraße, or I can take the route under trees or past contemplative garden allotments. The U6 line takes me to Friedrichstrasse uninterrupted. By car, the A111 motorway is reached very quickly, with the junctions at Holzhauser Strasse, Seidelstraße and Eichborndamm just a short drive away. For cyclists there's a very attractive connection. Part of the well-developed Berlin-Copenhagen cycle route leads from Invalidenstraße in Mitte via Tegel and on to Spandau. Depending on one's chosen mode of transport, it takes only 25 to 35 minutes to travel the approximately 10-kilometre route from Mitte to Tegel.
Goethe wrote, in "Faust", "The Devil doesn't ask after rules. We are so wise, and yet it's haunting in Tegel ". Part of the district of Reinickendorf, Tegel's 36,000 inhabitants make for a manageable locality. In addition to its many scenic attractions, Tegel is home to significant cultural monuments such as the Villa Borsig and the Humboldt Library, a number of industrial monuments and a very good infrastructure for shopping and dining out. Very popular destinations are the halls at the Borsigturm, a large shopping centre with a heritage-landmark ambience, and the romantic neighbourhood of Alt-Tegel where you'll find a high density of gastronomic establishments of all kinds and direct connections to the waterfront at Tegeler See, which leads on to the Sechserbrücke.
